A special roundwound string with a multi-layered wrap wire micro-ground to a precise gauge and smoothness.
Elites Groundwounds (aka "Halfrounds") are made by grinding half of the outer windings of roundwound strings into a flat surface, creating a string with some tonal characteristics of Flatwounds but with the flexibility of roundwound bass strings - perfect for a bass player who wants a brighter sounding flat string.
Super-versatile, Elites Groundwounds are equally well-suited for any styles of music - Great for fretless and fretted instruments, they reduce wear on the fingerboard and frets yet still deliver a bright upfront sound with less finger-noise and string-click.
I put my first set of these strings on my Lusithand-modified (Doubled NFP/BM800) 2023 Music Man Special 5HH. Immediately, I knew I had struck gold with these strings on this bass! Shades of P-bass or a Music Man. Then I acquired a stock 2024 Fender Jazz Professional 5-string that came with a high-C string set. So, just for kicks, I moved the Elites from the MM 5HH to this new Jazz and Voila!, more sensational tone! That's when I doubled down on three more sets. I now have them on two more basses, a Sadowsky Metroline PJ and a Yamaha BBNE2. Both bass tones improved for my taste, especially for the BBNE2. This bass is the only neck-through I have and now has the best B-string tone of all my basses, even compared with my Dingwall. The other thing about the BBNE2 is its lack of any characteristic tone, which allows it to sit in the mix more easily but not as much fun to play as some other basses. These Elites Groundwounds give the BBNE2 a very pleasing, commanding character that now makes it one of my favorite basses to play.A "Thank You" to YouTube's Dan Hawkins Bass Lessons for suggesting these strings.
As a long time Elites Nickel user I thought I'd give these a go on my graphite necked 5-string Status as I was after something smooth feeling, (I find most normal steels too rough), but with more 'zing' than flats and these hit it on the head! Perfect tension, great feel and loads of tone... think I'll be coming back for some 4-string sets for some of my other basses!
