A micro bass amp with an unbelievably big sound
The Phil Jones Bass BG-75 Double Four is a revolutionary single channel personal micro bass amplifier with an auxiliary input for a drum machine or smartphone/MP3 player, a 3 band EQ perfectly tailored for bass instruments, headphone out for personal monitoring, and a line out for recording (or to drive a powered speaker system).
The cabinet may be as small as a shoe-box but it is constructed to the same high standards of all PJB cabinets, with internal bracing and acoustic damping preventing coloration that can kill the true sound of your instrument and ensuring that what you hear from the Double Four is the closest you can get to how your bass actually sounds.
Although designed as a practice amplifier, this tiny combo delivers a huge sound for its diminutive size and boasts the same signature quality as the rest of the world-renowned PJB range. It is ideal for all kinds of instruments, handling upright basses and the open low B on a 5-string with ease, and — whether you’re looking for a bedroom rehearsal amp, personal monitor, or the perfect small combo for an intimate coffee house gig — it will prove to be a seriously reliable performance partner in any situation.
"The Double Four had plenty of volume for its size. It handled everything I threw at it, from fingerstyle to slap to pick. It was punchy, tight, accurate, and above all, simple." — Steve Cook, Premier Guitar
Over the years, bass players have watched their amps get progressively smaller and smaller and Phil Jones Bass has always been at the forefront of this “micro amp” trend with its Briefcase and Bass Cub combos. Now, Phil Jones Bass has once again redefined the the amazing compact signature PJB sound with the Double Four amplifier.
Sporting new driver design, acoustic loading, and the latest in digital amplifier technology, the Double Four looks and sounds as if it defies the laws of physics.
Pushing their expertise with smaller speakers to the limit, PJB have created the NeoPower driver. These 4" units are able to cope comfortably with the extreme signals coming from an amplified bass guitar. Each driver is fed by its own PWM amplifier, an extremely efficient system that allows the Double Four to run at a reduced operating temperature. Also, by using an independent amplifier for each speaker, the bass control is greatly improved, since the damping factor is essentially doubled.
And it doesn’t stop there. The backs of the speakers are loaded with a Rectangular Auxiliary Low Frequency Radiator (RALFR®), a radiator that operates at the lowest bass frequencies, augmenting the output of the speakers at frequencies from 30 to 150Hz. The cabinet enclosure is also heavily braced internally and lined with acoustic damping materials, preventing cabinet coloration and allowing you to hear the true sound of your instrument.
The result of all this innovation is a no-nonsense, transparent amplifier with a lower operating temperature that will last through more rehearsals and gigs and not sit on the tech’s workbench, as well as one that faithfully amplifies your bass' authentic bass.
